UBL Biorhythm: Farm System ReportFarm System Report

In this article we will review the top five farm systems in baseball.

A note on these rankings. We have not taken potentials into consideration. This was a conscious decision. Just because a player exhibits potential, does not mean the player will ever realize this potential. Farm systems were evaluated on their present strengths, character and ability to convert their talent into major league players in a relatively short period of time.

1. Morocco Mayhem - Big things are expected of top prospect Ted McCaulley. He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. The bottom also falls out of his very good changeup. Keeyon Maxwell has caught the attention of the Morocco Mayhem press, who routinely cover his progress. He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. Another great prospect is Clarence Doles. He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. He can get groundballs when he needs them in a jam. Keep your eye on Otho Toomer. Toomer's development is proceeding a little slower than hoped, but the Morocco Mayhem are no less optimistic. You also have to like the talent of catcher Scotti Hembd. Hembd hasn't stepped up to fill the big shoes the Morocco Mayhem are hoping he will, but these things take time.
Score: A-

2. Edinburgh Plaid Sox - The signing of Eliot Mautz could prove instrumental for the Edinburgh Plaid Sox. He's expected to play a big part of the team's future. Mautz is a control pitcher; when he's on he has pinpoint control. He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. Mautz uses a slide step to keep runners close. Budding starting pitcher Vida Green is sure to show his face in the bigs soon enough. He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. He can get groundballs when he needs them in a jam. Fledgling starting pitcher Quinton Dailey promises to make a splash in the big leagues soon enough. He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. The Edinburgh Plaid Sox expect big things from their young first baseman Blake Roberts. He hasn't excelled quite yet, but the Edinburgh Plaid Sox are expecting big things from him. Keep your eyes on the development of Kenmal Cayo. Cayo's development is proceeding a little slower than hoped, but the Edinburgh Plaid Sox are no less optimistic.
Score: A-

3. Detroit Polar Bears - The signing of Felix Rosensteel could prove instrumental for the Detroit Polar Bears. He's expected to play a big part of the team's future. One of the nice things about Felix is that he's a real clutch hitter. If it's late in the game, and there are men on base, you want this guy at the plate. Much has been said about prospect Stevie McCoyne. His curveball is solid; he throws it better than your average starter. Much has been said about prospect Sammy Iron. When sportscasters talk about Iron's rubber arm, they're not kidding. Sometimes I think he can start both games of a double header! Another great prospect is El Gizmo. The Detroit Polar Bears believe Gizmo's slider to be the equal of almost any in the league. Watch out for young Baron Munchausen. This guy is gonna be good. When his legs are healthy, Munchausen is an excellent basestealer with good speed and first-step quickness.
Score: A-

4. Chinese Yellow Fever - The signing of Mikey Canterbury could prove instrumental for the Chinese Yellow Fever. He's expected to play a big part of the team's future. He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. With a decent slide step and his constant attention to the running game, Canterbury limits the damage done by basestealers. Watch out for young Maynard Karpel. This guy is gonna be good. He isn't that tough to hit, but it's difficult to get good loft on his pitches and he seldom gives up the longball. Many have been impressed with Kelvon Calzada's work down on the farm. He's a finesse pitcher, relying on movement and location. With a decent slide step and his constant attention to the running game, Calzada limits the damage done by basestealers. Calzada has an impressive presence on the mound, always taking an aggressive posture. Keep your eyes on the development of Joe Wrongsman. One of the nice things about Joe is that he's a real clutch hitter. Wrongsman is an above-average runner, but lacks the first-step explosiveness needed to become a basestealing threat. Many have been impressed with Colby Fetherston's work down on the farm. Fetherston plays a near-flawless catcher, making very few errors. His arm is accurate enough.
Score: A-

5. Pittsburgh River Rats - Big things are expected of top prospect Reyes Wassinger. He is adept at coaxing groundballs with his sinking fastball and plunging curveball, so hitters try to force him to elevate his deliveries and hope that they'll catch too much of the strike zone. He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. There are big hopes that Rolf Leeder will mature into a superstar. He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. Ace Tuten also appears very promising. A fluid delivery leaves him in good shape for fielding, and he has a reputation as a competent defender. Nacho Cheese has been a critically acclaimed starting pitcher prospect. Cheese hasn't stepped up to fill the big shoes the Pittsburgh River Rats are hoping he will, but these things take time. There are big hopes that Hero Accept will mature into a superstar. He can get groundballs when he needs them in a jam.
