Johnny Wheeler
Catcher | Free Agents
Hitting In past seasons, Wheeler has been a bit of a liability with men on base. The book on Wheeler is that you can knock the bat out of his hands with an average major league fastball. Let's face facts: Wheeler hits a lot of ground balls... and in my book, if you're slow of foot and put the ball on the ground, you're bound to get tied up in the double play. Even though you might not start him, he's not a bad guy to have on your bench for the tough left-handed reliever. You can expect Johnny Wheeler to hit the ball to the opposite field... that's just the kind of hitter he is. It's hard to explain but Johnny Wheeler plays much better on the road then he does at home.
Baserunning & Defense Wheeler isn't a fluid catcher, but he's not afraid to get dirty and gets the job done. His arm is accurate enough. He generally takes one base at a time, though he'll take advantage if an outfielder gets lackadaisical.
