Pinky Wayenberg
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching When sportscasters talk about Wayenberg's rubber arm, they're not kidding. Sometimes I think he can start both games of a double header! He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. His fastball is just average, and therefore he relies heavily on placing it in different parts of the strike zone or setting it up with his slider. Wayenberg also has a decent changeup. The Retired or Inactive Players hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. The running movement on his pitches makes life tougher on lefties than righties. It's hard to explain but Pinky Wayenberg plays much better on the road then he does at home.
Defense & Hitting Wayenberg has a good move to first base and keeps baserunners at bay with a quick delivery. He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. Wayenberg is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Wayenberg has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Wayenberg as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2014 Outlook I really like what this kid brings to the table.
