Walt Vergez
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching He can get groundballs when he needs them in a jam. He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. His changeup isn't bad... he fools his share of hitters. The Retired or Inactive Players hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. He's almost as effective against lefthanders as he is versus righthanders.
Defense & Hitting Vergez is nothing special in the field. His windup, though, makes him an easy target to run on. Vergez is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Vergez has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Vergez as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2014 Outlook If Vergez doesn't perform, the Retired or Inactive Players won't hesitate to send him down to the minors. I just don't know if The Retired or Inactive Players are ever going to get what they expect out of him.
