Pitching
He's unflappable on the mound, possessing the confidence to throw any of his offerings at any time in the count. Szopinski is a control pitcher; when he's on he has pinpoint control. Szopinski's bread-and-butter pitch is a hard, two-seam fastball that rides in on righthanders' fists. Szopinski also has a solid changeup that he'll use at any point in the count. Szopinski throws a nice sinker... The rookies never seem to know when it's coming. Szopinski has to keep the ball down, especially against lefties, or he gets hit hard and often. He comes right after righthanded hitters, who are lucky even to reach base against him, but he works more carefully to lefties.

Defense & Hitting
He's average in terms of controlling the running game. He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. Szopinski is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Szopinski has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Edinburgh Plaid Sox have been known to use Szopinski as a pinch-runner on occasion.

2014 Outlook
I really like what this kid brings to the table.
