Jim Smith
Relief Pitcher | Free Agents
Pitching He struggles with his command at times and is still learning to mix his pitches and set up hitters. Smith also has a decent changeup. He tends to work slowly when in a jam, which just makes his problems worse by lulling his fielders to sleep. You know, some times I think I can throw harder than Smith, and that's saying a lot. He changes speeds well enough to keep righthanders from teeing off on him.
Defense & Hitting For a lefty, his move to first base is average at best, and he has a tendency to forget about runners at second, thereby creating opportunities to swipe third. He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. Smith is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Smith has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Free Agents have been known to use Smith as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2014 Outlook I just don't know if The Free Agents are ever going to get what they expect out of him.
