Bill Rowan
Starting Pitcher | Edinburgh Plaid Sox
Pitching He is adept at coaxing groundballs with his sinking fastball and plunging curveball, so hitters try to force him to elevate his deliveries and hope that they'll catch too much of the strike zone. His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. The Edinburgh Plaid Sox hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. Steals sometimes unnerve Rowan, who isn't blessed with extraordinary self-confidence. He traditionally fares better against lefties.
Defense & Hitting He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. He never has controlled the running game. Rowan is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Rowan has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Edinburgh Plaid Sox have been known to use Rowan as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2014 Outlook If Rowan doesn't perform, the Edinburgh Plaid Sox won't hesitate to send him down to the minors. I just don't know if The Edinburgh Plaid Sox are ever going to get what they expect out of him.
