Henrique Poirot
Starting Pitcher | Edinburgh Plaid Sox
Pitching Poirot's bread and butter pitch is his slider. I've seen it baffle many a right handed batter. It's tough to get much loft on the ball against him, as he works down in the strike zone to begin with and his two-seamer produces mostly groundballs. Poirot throws a nice sinker... The rookies never seem to know when it's coming. Poirot can get into trouble with walks, and there's concern about him being able to maintain his stuff over the whole season. He can hit 90 MPH but is too smart to try to get his fastball past most hitters. This man owns lefties. Put it this way, if your lineup is full of them, you might want rethink your lineup.
Defense & Hitting Poirot fields his position well. Though he lacks a good pickoff move, he checks the running game with a compact stretch delivery. Poirot is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Poirot has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Edinburgh Plaid Sox have been known to use Poirot as a pinch-runner on occasion.
