Pitching
Montoya is a control pitcher; when he's on he has pinpoint control. His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. Montoya also has a decent changeup. He's almost as effective against lefthanders as he is versus righthanders.

Defense & Hitting
A quick pickoff move and a slide step prevent runners from stealing bases. He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately.
