Pitching
He's unflappable on the mound, possessing the confidence to throw any of his offerings at any time in the count. Merriwether can get into trouble with walks, and there's concern about him being able to maintain his stuff over the whole season. Merriwether also has a decent changeup. His stuff becomes less sharp as he gets into the late innings. He's almost as effective against lefthanders as he is versus righthanders.

Defense & Hitting
Merriwether is nothing special in the field. He doesn't have much of a pickoff move and he's slow getting the ball to home plate out of the set position. Merriwether is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Merriwether has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Free Agents have been known to use Merriwether as a pinch-runner on occasion.

2014 Outlook
But if you ask me, I'll pass on Merriwether.
