Dick McGehee
Starting Pitcher | Free Agents
Pitching McGehee can get into trouble with walks, and there's concern about him being able to maintain his stuff over the whole season. His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. McGehee also has a decent changeup. He tends to work slowly when in a jam, which just makes his problems worse by lulling his fielders to sleep. He is an extreme flyball pitcher and gives up more than his share of doubles and home runs. He attacks lefties and righties with similar success.
Defense & Hitting McGehee fields his position well. His pickoff move is merely average. McGehee is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but McGehee has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Free Agents have been known to use McGehee as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2014 Outlook It's really a shame he hasn't caught on somewhere. He might be a decent addition to someone's bench.
