Hitting
Malkmus never has been a patient hitter. He hangs in well against lefthanders' breaking balls, and some of the pitchers he hits best are the southpaw specialists often brought in to face him. You can expect Chet Malkmus to pull the ball.

Baserunning & Defense
Malkmus isn't a fluid left fielder, but he's not afraid to get dirty and gets the job done. Runners take advantage of his weak arm. Malkmus isn't a good baserunner. He doesn't get good jumps on steals nor runs sharp routes around the bases.
