Ches Lyden
Relief Pitcher | Free Agents
Pitching He can get groundballs when he needs them in a jam. He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. The Free Agents hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. Sometimes I wish he'd just give up on throwing the changeup, it's like a BP ball! You know, some times I think I can throw harder than Lyden, and that's saying a lot. He's almost as effective against lefthanders as he is versus righthanders.
Defense & Hitting He doesn't have much of a pickoff move and he's slow getting the ball to home plate out of the set position. Lyden doesn't field his position well. Lyden is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Lyden has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Free Agents have been known to use Lyden as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2014 Outlook But if you ask me, I'll pass on Lyden.
