Blakely Lyden
Starting Pitcher | Barcelona Matadors

Pitching
His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. The Barcelona Matadors hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. Sometimes I wish he'd just give up on throwing the changeup, it's like a BP ball! He's almost as effective against lefthanders as he is versus righthanders.

Defense & Hitting
Lyden remains one of the best fielding pitchers in the game's history. Lyden doesn't make much of an attempt to combat the running game. Basestealers ran at will last year. Lyden is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Lyden has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Barcelona Matadors have been known to use Lyden as a pinch-runner on occasion.

2014 Outlook
If Lyden doesn't perform, the Barcelona Matadors won't hesitate to send him down to the minors. I just don't know if The Barcelona Matadors are ever going to get what they expect out of him.
