Alex Koch
Starting Pitcher | Free Agents
Pitching Sometimes I wish he'd just give up on throwing the changeup, it's like a BP ball! If you're going in to face Koch, better be wearing plenty of protection. He's wild. Never a hard thrower, Koch now has games when he can't hit 85 MPH with his fastball. When you throw a curveball, it better break. Hanging curves equal earned runs in this league, you just can't get away with them. Unfortunately, Koch's curveball tends to hang. He changes speeds well enough to keep righthanders from teeing off on him.
Defense & Hitting His move to first isn't very good, but his delivery is fairly quick and he isn't overly vulnerable to the stolen base. A shaky fielder, he's slow to react to grounders and often looks unsure on his throws to the bases. Koch is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Koch has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Free Agents have been known to use Koch as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2014 Outlook But if you ask me, I'll pass on Koch.
