Hitting
The book on Hillegas is that you can knock the bat out of his hands with an average major league fastball. But Johnny's detracters are quick to call attention to his ongoing struggles at the plate with men on base. Hillegas always has been a line-drive hitter who uses the entire field. Even though you might not start him, he's not a bad guy to have on your bench for the tough left-handed reliever.

His arm is below average but not a major weakness given his solid defense. Hillegas isn't a good baserunner. He doesn't get good jumps on steals nor runs sharp routes around the bases.
