Larry Fowler
Starting Pitcher | Free Agents
Pitching I've seen Fowler work himself into a jam on occassion. The good thing about him is that he knows how to work himself out of them. The Free Agents hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. Because he can't overpower hitters, Fowler has to fool them instead. His stuff becomes less sharp as he gets into the late innings. Sometimes I wish he'd just give up on throwing the changeup, it's like a BP ball! The running movement on his pitches makes life tougher on lefties than righties.
Defense & Hitting For a lefty, his move to first base is average at best, and he has a tendency to forget about runners at second, thereby creating opportunities to swipe third. He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. Fowler is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Fowler has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Free Agents have been known to use Fowler as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2014 Outlook It's really a shame he hasn't caught on somewhere. He might be a decent addition to someone's bench.
