Bobby Barton
Starting Pitcher | Detroit Polar Bears
Pitching The bottom also falls out of his very good changeup. Barton throws a nice sinker... The rookies never seem to know when it's coming. Barton can get into trouble with walks, and there's concern about him being able to maintain his stuff over the whole season. His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. His stuff becomes less sharp as he gets into the late innings. He's almost as effective against lefthanders as he is versus righthanders.
Defense & Hitting Barton uses a slide step to keep runners close. He fielded his position creditably. Barton is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Barton has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Detroit Polar Bears have been known to use Barton as a pinch-runner on occasion.
