Hitting
During the last two years, he has become more patient and gotten better loft on the ball. The Retired or Inactive Players do tend to sit Ames when the opposing team throws a lefty. It's no secret he can't touch the left-handed breaking ball. He uses the entire field and has gap power.

Baserunning & Defense
Ames isn't a fluid right fielder, but he's not afraid to get dirty and gets the job done. Jackie's arm leaves a little to be a desired. Ames doesn't have great speed, though he reads righthanders' moves well enough to steal a few bases each season without getting caught very often.
