Hassan Al-Jahir
Starting Pitcher | Toronto Dragons
Pitching He's a finesse pitcher, relying on movement and location. He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. He can get groundballs when he needs them in a jam. His curveball is solid; he throws it better than your average starter. Al-Jahir's fastball is a tick above average, in the 90-91 MPH range on most nights. He has an above-average changeup and the ability to throw from a variety of arm angles. He generates few groundballs, though he keeps the ball in the park. His stuff becomes less sharp as he gets into the late innings. He changes speeds well enough to keep righthanders from teeing off on him.
Defense & Hitting Al-Jahir has an impressive presence on the mound, always taking an aggressive posture. He has a quick pickoff move, but sometimes concentrates on pitching so much that he forgets about runners. Al-Jahir is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Al-Jahir has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Toronto Dragons have been known to use Al-Jahir as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2014 Outlook I really like what this kid brings to the table.
